Review : (Never) Again By Theresa Paolo

Summary :

Just when she had finally moved on…
…He moved back.

When college freshman Liz Wagner hears her ex's voice for the first time since he moved clear across the freaking country, she does what any respectable girl would do: Dive into the girls' bathroom.

Zach Roberts—the Zach Roberts—is back. And he’s everywhere Liz looks—infiltrating her friend group, buddy-buddy with her brother. It’s enough to ruin college altogether. But what choice does she have but to put on a happy face and pretend he didn't leave her vulnerable and alone in a pile of emotional wreckage?

Pretending works, until tragedy strikes and the only person available for comfort is the one person she wants to stay away from. When Zach turns out not to be the jerk she convinced herself he was, but the boy she used to love, Liz needs to decide whether to open her heart again to the boy who tore it out.

Review :

“I know,” I whispered and when he blinked up, his familiar eyes looking past the surface, burning with everything I felt, I was sucked in, and all common sense was gone.”

(Never) Again was a decent read, but not a favorite of mine.Liz was heartbroken when Zach her high school sweetheart moved out of town due to his parents relocating. He promised to stay in touch but then he just stopped calling. It was hard for her to move on because there was no official break up, and it took her a while to accept it was over.

Now she's at college and she's finally moved on. She goes to a local college and rooms with her best friend from high school. She also has a boyfriend, Joe, and everything is peachy until she walks into class one day and bumps into the one guy she never thought she'd see again. Zach.
Zach tries to be friendly but Liz doesn't want to know. You can see that it has shaken her to be in his presence again, and despite her denials its obvious she has never really gotten over him.

Eventually they start talking again, and Zach still has feelings for Liz too, but he won't act on them because she is still in a realtionship.

Which brings us to Joe - anyone can see that Joe is no good for Liz. He's selfish and takes Liz for granted but she can't see this and is still convinced that they can have a future together.

I was so frustrated with Liz! Joe is a waste of space - he'd rather go out and get drunk, and follow his friends band around like a groupie. Everytime Liz asks him to do something he always has an excuse and she lets him get away with it.
Zach is desperate for a second chance with Liz, and I thought he deserved one, but although Liz was a doormat where Joe was concerned, she was stubborn with Zach. She was hurt by him in the past and refused to consider giving him another chance in case he hurt her again.
This was a quick read for me, I enjoyed it nevertheless.
