Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse #5) By Charlaine Harris Review

SUMMARY

Small-town cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse has had more than her share of experience with the supernatural—but now it’s really hitting close to home. When Sookie sees her brother Jason’s eyes start to change, she knows he’s about to turn into a were-panther for the first time—a transformation he embraces more readily than most shapeshifters she knows. But her concern becomes cold fear when a sniper sets his deadly sights on the local changeling population, and Jason’s new panther brethren suspect he may be the shooter. Now, Sookie has until the next full moon to find out who’s behind the attacks—unless the killer decides to find her first…

REVIEW

Dead as a Doornail features different types of ‘Were’s – this fictional universe features werefoxes, weretigers, and werepanthers in addition to the default supernatural creature. All Sookie Stackhouse wanted was to settle down with her loving vampire boyfriend Bill Compton and continue her normal work as a waitress. But since the events of the first book, everything in that previous sentence has changed: the first book, Dead Until Dark, has Sookie solving the murders of a vampire without framing her brother, Jason. Living Dead in Dallas has Sookie fight the Fellowship of the Sun, a group of vicious vampire haters. Club Dead, on the other hand, witnesses the expansion of Sookie’s universe, upon finding out the existence of werewolves and the different vampire factions, as well as the end of Sookie and Bill’s romance. Dead to the World puts Sookie in a precarious position, as she must find out how to control her feelings for Bill’s anmesiac superior, Eric Northman, while trying to take back his memory from a coven of witches and werewolves.

Now, it is the Weres that take centerstage in the events of Dead as a Doornail – Jason Stackhouse, Sookie’s brother, has recently been flung into the world of the Supes (supernatural beings) when he is turned into a werepanther. Although it seems that Jason is enjoying his new status, several Weres have been discovered shot in Sookie and Jason’s town of Bon Temps – and the Were community is starting to point their fingers at Jason.

Fans of mysteries, romance, and the supernatural will each have something to like in Dead as a Doornail. Sookie’s homespun wit and forbidden romance will keep romance readers glued to the book. Summing up – Dead As A Doornail is just as good as the previous Sookie Stackhouse books, which if you like books in this genre is about as good as a book can get.

FAV QUOTES-

“Eric moved the broom experimentally and made an attempt to sweep the glass into the pan while it lay in the middle of the floor. Of course, the pan slid away. Eric scowled.
I'd finally found something Eric did poorly.”

“Food that walked and talked, that was us. McPeople.”
